TESOL(Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)은 “영어를 모국어가 아닌 외국어로 배우는 학습자들을 대상으로 실시하는 영어교육”을 의미합니다. 전 세계 다수의 교육기관에 TESOL 자격증 및 학사, 석사, 박사과정이 개설되어 활발한 연구와 교육이 이루어지고 있습니다. 배재대학교 교육대학원 TESOL전공은 수업, 발표, 코칭을 전문적 수준의 영어로 수행하는데 필수적인 지식 및 기술의 습득을 목표로 하는 현장 영어교육전문가들을 대상으로 글로벌 수준의 TESOL석사 학위과정을 제공합니다. 풍부한 연구와 교육경험을 보유하고 국내외 학회에서 임원으로 활발하게 활동하고 있는 교수진과 함께 모든 교과목을 100% 영어로 진행하여 졸업 시 유창하고 정확한 전문영어 구사능력을 갖출 수 있습니다. 또한 영어 교수학습의 혁신을 이룰 수 있는 최신 지식 및 테크놀로지 활용 능력과 더불어 코칭커뮤니케이션 기술까지 습득하여 글로벌 초연결 시대를 앞서가는 최고 수준의 TESOL전문가로 도약할 수 있습니다.

TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Graduate TESOL Program at Pai Chai University offers an MA degree program for both pre- and in-service TESOL professionals who aim to acquire knowledge and skills essential for conducting classes, presentations, and coaching in professional English. All courses are taught exclusively in English and students are trained to use cutting-edge knowledge and tools to innovate English teaching and learning practices.

배재대학교 교육대학원 TESOL전공은 ‘테크놀로지 활용 영어교육 및 언어평가’와 ‘영어학습코칭’, 두 개의 세부전공 트랙을 제공하며 요건 충족 시 TESOL석사학위와 함께 전문자격증도 취득하여 해당분야의 전문가로 활동할 수 있습니다.

Specialization Tracks
Graduate TESOL Program at PCU features two specialization tracks: Technology-Assisted English teaching & Language Testing and Coaching for English Learning. Students may choose their preferred track or both tracks in conjunction with their MA degree to demonstrate their expertize in the chosen specialty area.

테크놀로지 활용 영어교육 및 언어평가 전문가 트랙 / Technology-Assisted English Teaching & Language Testing

컴퓨터와 모바일 기기 등 최첨단 정보기기를 활용한 테크놀로지 활용 영어교육과 영어 말하기와 쓰기 수행평가를 위한 평가도구를 제작, 채점하고 활용할 수 있는 역량을 갖춘 영어교육전문가를 양성하는 세부전공 트랙.

This track trains students as professional creators and users of state-of-the-art computer technological tools and also language testing tools for practical classroom use.

영어학습코칭 전문가 트랙 / Coaching for English Learning

전통적인 티칭 패러다임의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 1:1 또는 그룹 기반의 학습자맞춤형 코칭커뮤니케이션 기법과 코칭도구 활용능력을 갖춘 영어학습코칭전문가를 양성하는 세부전공 트랙.

This track aims at training teachers as professional coaches for English learning in a one-on-one or group-based setting. Emphasis is placed on acquiring coaching methodology for tailor-made coaching interaction and skill training. Students may opt to complete the second half of the program at the University of North Florida, a sister university in the US.

연구방법론 1, 2 (Research Methodology 1, 2)

석사논문 작성을 위한 양적, 질적 연구방법론의 기초를 습득한다. 연구계획서 작성법, 자료수집, 분석, 해석과 토론 방법 등 논문의 구조와 작성법을 학습하여 본인의 석사/박사 논문 작성에 적용한다.

This course lays the foundation for quantitative and qualitative research methodologies needed for thesis writing. Students familiarize themselves with thesis structure and writing by learning how to write a research proposal, collect and analyze data, and to interpret and present research findings.

석사논문연구 1, 2 (Research for the Master´s Degree 1, 2)

일반적인 논문 연구의 과정을 습득한다. 문헌연구를 바탕으로 연구주제와 연구방법을 정하고 실제 연구조사를 통하여 석사논문을 작성한다.

This course provides an understanding of a general process of thesis research. Students decide on a research topic and research methodology based on literature review and then conduct empirical research to complete the thesis.

영어교육질적연구방법론 1(Qualitative Research Methods in English Education 1)

질적 연구에서 사용되는 다양한 연구방법을 학습하여 영어교육 관련 주제에 관한 질적 연구를 수행할 수 있는 능력을 배양한다.

Students learn about various research methods to foster ability to conduct qualitative research on a topic related to English education.

영어교육질적연구방법론 2(Qualitative Research Methods in English Education 2)

질적 연구방법을 사용하여 영어교육 관련 연구 주제에 관한 질적 연구를 수행하고 연구논문 작성법을 습득한다.

Students conduct qualitative research on a topic using a qualitative research method and acquire how to write up research papers.

영어교육양적연구방법론 1, 2(Quantitative Research Methodology for English Teaching 1, 2)

양적 연구방법을 사용하여 영어교육 관련 연구 주제에 관한 양적 연구를 수행하고 연구논문 작성법을 습득한다.

Students learn about various research methods to foster ability to conduct quantitative research on a topic related to English education.

멀티미디어활용영어교육 1, 2 (Multimedia-Assisted English Learning 1, 2)

웹기반과 멀티미디어를 통한 영어 학습에 있어 다양한 외국어 습득이론과 교육학적 학습 이론을 기반으로 듣기, 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기, 문법, 어휘 지도, 교재 제작, 자료 수집 방법론과 기술을 학습한다.

Students learn a wide range of teaching methods and techniques for listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, materials design, and data collection based on second language acquisition and general theories of learning using web-based and offline multimedia tools for English learning.

영어교재및자료개발연구 1, 2 (English Textbook and Materials Development 1, 2)

외국어학습 상황에서 학습자 중심의 듣기, 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기 관련 교수요목과 교재 기획 및 개발의 근간을 이루는 다양한 교재 디자인 개발 이론을 학습하며 실제에 적용할 수 있는 능력을 배양한다.

Students learn various materials design theories underlying the planning and development of learner-centered syllabi and textbooks related to listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary, and build their ability to apply those theories to practices.

저작도구활용영어교육 1, 2 (English Education with multimedia tools 1, 2)

교육과정에 부합하는 교재와 교수자료를 멀티미디어 저작도구를 활용하여 제작하는데 필요한 다양한 방법들을 실습한다.

Students gain hands-on experience with various techniques necessary for collecting and developing textbooks and teaching materials congruent with the curriculum through multimedia design tools.

영어평가이론과실습 1, 2 (English Language Testing 1, 2)

학습자들의 언어능력을 측정하기 위한 평가도구들을 적절히 활용할 수 있는 지식과 경험을 습득한다. 절대평가와 상대평가, 객관식과 주관식 문항 개발을 위한 다양한 평가 이론을 학습하고 실제 환경에 적용한다. 그 결과를 해석하여 타당도 검증을 통해 실제 상황에서 활용하는 능력을 배양한다.

Students acquire the knowledge of and experience with appropriate assessment tools for measuring learners´ language proficiency. Students also learn and apply to educational settings diverse testing theories of criterion-referenced and norm-referenced tests and objective and subjective item writing. They are also given the opportunity to improve their ability to use such knowledge in specific educational settings through validation process and test result interpretation.

자기주도영어학습지도법 1, 2 (Methodology for Self-Directed English Learning 1, 2)

성공이고 효과적인 영어학습을 위하여 동기부여, 학습기술 습득, 실천 및 습관화를 통한 학습자의 자주성을 높이기 위한 이론과 실제를 경험하고 습득한다. 본 과정을 통해 학습자에게 적절한 동기부여 방법과 다양한 영어교육 학습기술을 적용하고 피드백을 수집하는 과정을 경험할 수 있다.

Students acquire and experience the theories and practices of self-directed English learning through motivation enhancement, learning skill acquisition, and practice and habituation to elevate learners’ autonomy. In the course, they explore the process of providing appropriate motivating skills and various English learning methods, and collecting feedback.

TESOL교수방법론 1, 2 (TESOL Methodology 1, 2)

집중적인 실습을 통하여 영어교육전문가에게 요구되는 영어 읽기 쓰기 관련 의사소통능력을 배양한다.

Students foster their communicative competence involving English reading and writing through intensive practice.

영어교육세미나 1, 2(English Education Seminar 1, 2)

듣기, 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기, 어휘, 문법, 교수 방법론, 외국어습득론, 교실영어, 영어평가 이론, 멀티미디어 활용 영어교육과 같은 다양한 분야에서 비롯되는 영어교육 연구 및 이론의 최신 동향에 관련된 주제를 정하여 발표하고 토의한다.

This is a seminar course in which students choose a topic pertaining to English education that is of current research and/or theoretical interest, give a presentation on that topic, and participate in discussion, covering a wide range of areas such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, teaching methodology, second language acquisition theory, classroom English, English language testing theory, and multimedia-assisted language learning.

어린이영어교육 1, 2 (English Education for Young Learners 1, 2)

어린이 학습자의 학습 스타일 및 전략, 개인 성격차에 따른 변인들, 사회 문화적 요소들, 언어간 영향 등의 요인들을 중심으로 다양한 제2언어습득 이론들을 학습하고 교수법과 수업계획서를 실제로 작성하는 연습을 한다.

Students learn various theories of second language acquisition, with particular reference to young learners, focusing on key factors such as learning styles and strategies, personality differences factors, socio-cultural factors, and cross-linguistic influences. Students also gain hands-on experience with teaching methods and lesson design.

제2언어습득론 1, 2 (Second Language Acquisition Theories 1, 2)

외국어 습득 맥락, 학습자의 스타일과 학습전략, 동기 부여 및 개인 성격 차에 따른 변인들, 사회 문화적 요소들, 언어 간 영향 및 학습자 언어, 의사소통능력 등에 대한 다양한 이론들을 학습함으로써 학습자와 교수맥락에 대한 이해와 교수법에 대한 적용 방법을 고찰한다.

This course introduces students to theories regarding variables such as learning styles and strategies, motivation, personality traits, socio-cultural influences, cross-linguistic influences, learner language, and communicative competence, and then examine ways to apply those theories to understanding learners, context of teaching, and teaching methods.

TESOL세미나 1, 2 (TESOL Seminar 1, 2)

TESOL의 역사적 이론적 바탕을 소개하며 TESOL분야가 갖는 전문성을 이해할 수 있는 통찰력을 기른다. 다양한 TESOL관련 프로그램과 기관, 학술지들을 소개하며 그러한 정보들을 통해 TESOL 전문가로서 자신의 모습을 성찰하면서 향후 TESOL분야의 전문가로 성장해 나갈 계획을 세우는 기회를 제공한다.

This course introduces students to the historical and theoretical foundations of the field of TESOL, and fosters their understanding of TESOL as a professional field of study. Students are exposed to various TESOL programs, professional organizations, and journals, then are given the opportunity to use those resources to reflect on and plan their career as a TESOL professional.

영어지도실습 1, 2(English Teaching Practicum 1, 2)

몰입식 영어수업을 실시할 수 있는 영어 의사소통 능력을 배양하기 위하여 영어인의 교실영어의 핵심적인 특징을 이해하고 수업 실습을 통하여 말하기 능력을 배양한다.

Students understand the key characteristics of English used in the classroom and acquire English skills necessary for teaching English immersion classes through mock teaching.

영어학습코칭론 1, 2(Principles of Coaching for English Learning 1, 2)

영어학습 과정과 기술 발달을 촉진할 수 있는 코칭대화기술을 사용할 수 있는 역량을 갖춘 영어학습코치가 되기 위한 교과목으로 현대 TESOL교수방법론과 코칭의 원리를 이해하고 1:1 및 그룹 기반 코칭실습을 통하여 실질적인 코칭기술을 습득한다.

This course trains TESOL graduate students as English coaches who can facilitate English learning processes and skill development through coaching conversational skills. Students are given ample opportunities to acquire knowledge about the core principles of comtemporary TESOL methodology and also about coaching, and then are led to engage in hands-on practice on managing one-one-one and group-based coaching sessions.

영어코칭방법론 1, 2(English Coaching Methodology 1, 2)

영어학습 과정과 기술 발달을 촉진할 수 있는 코칭방법론을 습득한다. 영어코칭의 개념적, 이론적 배경에 대하여 이해하고 1:1 및 그룹 기반 코칭실습을 직접 수행하면서 성공적인 코칭을 수행할 수 있는 코칭방법과 전략을 사용할 수 있는 능력을 배양한다.

This course offers TESOL graduate students English coaching methodology that is effective in facilitating English learning processes and skill development. Students are given information about the conceptual and theoretical backgrounds for English coaching, and then are given ample hands-on opportunities to engage in hands-on practice on managing one-one-one and group-based coaching sessions. They are also asked to develop effective coaching methods and strategies for producing successful coaching sessions.

문화와영어교육 1,2 (Culture & Language Learning 1,2)

This course introduces graduate students to the cultural dimension of language acquisition and use. This course focuses on how to improve classroom practice to incorporate multicultural awareness into the lesson so that students may broaden their view of second language learning processes and outcomes.

영어학1,2 (English Linguistics 1,2)

This course provides a comprehensive overview of English linguistics focusing on phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Class activities and discussions include topics related to practical application of those areas of linguistics to learning and teaching English as a second/foreign language.

영어 프리젠테이션연습및지도 1,2 (English Presentation Practice and Teaching 1,2)

This course provides students with opportunities to practice English conversational and presentational skills in authentic communicative and classroom contexts.
